Road Clean-up On Hwy. JJ
IN HONOR of EARTH DAY
Thanks to CEI Birders for rising to the task of semi-annual litter pick up along Highway JJ from Hwy W to, Marken Road. We spend hours on the marsh, we walk the marsh and see how trash accumulates along the roadways and waterways. We want to keep the marsh beautiful for all to enjoy! Permanent signs indicating that CEI Birders have adopted this section of road will be erected on Hwy JJ by Hwy W and, at the end of the route, Marken Road. This is a 2 mile stretch of road. Manitowoc County has supplied high visibility vests, “Road Work Ahead” signage for use when picking up trash, and some pick up sticks and grabbers. Being conscientious about environmental issues, C.E.I. Birders also has an account set up at Sadoff Recycling in Manitowoc for disposal of aluminum cans that might be picked up during litter collection. We are looking for any and all CEI Members to donate their aluminum cans to this effort. Cans can be dropped off by the rock pile at the nature center garage. Funds from recycling will be used to purchase materials to build a kiosk for the purpose of erecting a permanent Annual Phenology Board (observation board). We have a date set for our first litter pick up event – Saturday, April 23rd – and we’d like everyone who can, to come out and lend a hand. We will meet at 10am at the Nature Center and determine who might need dropping off or picking up, as well as which direction we should work. Lunch will be provided by C.E.I. and to that end, we ask that you register for this event at: CEI.Birders@gmail.com Hope to see you all on our Earth Day event to celebrate spring, spring cleaning and each other.
