Spring Migration
April’s CEI Bird club meeting began with a welcome to several new birding enthusiast attendees. Upcoming events were then reviewed, including the Midwest Crane Count April 12th, CEI road cleanup April 26th, plus a newly scheduled event at the Nature Center on April 27th. Rebecca Jabs, who created the remarkable Divers and Dabblers panels at the Nature Center, will be presenting a 1:00pm program to teach us how interpretive artwork enhances our study of birds.
Members then discussed the returning migrating birds they’ve been seeing, with Vicky sharing her Merlin app identified a merlin in her yard! Warbler migration picks up the last week in April and first week in May. Members were encouraged to use the http://ebird.org site to submit checklists to document their sightings. Bob shared a technique called “pishing” he uses to interest hidden birds.
A potential site change for next month’s meeting to Point Creek Park for peak warbler migration was discussed. Watch social media and emails for updates!
