July Bird Club

The weather was hot outside but bird club met in the comfort of the fan cooled nature center. With the drawdown of the marsh, the landscape looked quite different. Large mud flats revealing Mud Creek’s winding path are bordered with the beginnings of green vegetation along the edges. Large groups of sandhill cranes, Canada geese, and gulls were in view. None of the anticipated new shorebirds were spotted. A discussion of the sandpipers at a local bridge and the four types of swallows seen in our area- bank, cliff, tree, and barn- kept the group busy. The group also enjoyed the resident purple martins as well as the osprey feeding their young atop the tower.
