August Bird Club

Today’s CEI Bird Club began with a discussion of what we all are seeing at our favorite birding spots. Disappointed with the lack of anticipated shorebirds in the drained marsh, we all reported on our favorite local spots. 

Specific species hunting became the topic of discussion as one of the bird club members currently is in top spot for number of species reported in Manitowoc county in 2026. Chasing those oddball birds becomes even more important before the year comes to a close. Another bird club visitor has chosen this year to be her ” Big Year “. She is birding exclusively in Wisconsin and is attempting to reach 300 species by the end of the year. Weighing travel time and expense against the slim possibility of adding to the list is done almost daily. This type of birding maybe a motivator for some while many of us in the club are more casual birders. Whatever works!

A discussion of photography lenses, techniques, camera settings, etc. to capture the perfect image of each bird followed. We are so fortunate to have professional photographers willing to share their expertise in our group.
